Send as Distribution group with a mailcontact
We're having problems to grant a mailcontact (external of our domain) with send as permission on a distribution group. We've tried already through ADUC's security tab...and the problem is that the mailcontact does not appear, so we can't add the send as permission. Otherwise using the get-mailcontact cmdlet it appears as a mailcontact, and it's listed in the EMC list as well.
Also trying through powershell it seems that won't work with:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Add-ADPermission "DistributionGroup" -User "MailContact" -Extendedrights "Send As"
It says:
User or group "MailContact" wasn't found. Please make sure you've typed it correctly.
So I was wondering, how can I especify that it's not a User but a MailContact?
Many thanks in advance!

Accept emails from your own domain
Hi,
I have a question. We own a domain name (example mydomain.com), and we have it configured in our on-premise exchange environment as an accepted (authoritative) domain. Some of our users have this as their primary smtp address. Our SPF records for this domain only include our internal Hub Transport servers
However, we also run an ecommerce website www.mydomain.com, which is hosted by a 3rd party. When a customer places an order on the website, the 3rd party sends an email to the customer, ascustomersupport@mydomain.com (which is a real email address in our environment), and also copies the email to our internal web sales dept.
We use FOPE for spam filtering, and those emails have been getting quarantined. This makes sense to me. Why would our internal servers, accept email from a domain, from which we host internally?
I was wondering how other companies handle this type of situation? My thoughts were I can put a rule in FOPE to say allow emails fromcustomersupport@mydomain.com, but I feel like an external domains that our customers use, may check for SPF and mark these legit emails as spam?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Disclaimer for particular address
Currently have a disclaimer when we send out to an outside organisation we send out a disclaimer but I would like to create another disclaimer to remove the disclaimer to a particular address that contains for e.g. (@gmail.com)
Any help would be appreciated
Quarantine mailbox contains NDR's, not the original messages
I've having some trouble with Exchange Server 2013 (v15.0.847.4030 installed on a single server running Windows Server 2012 R2) and it's anti-spam configuration that I hope someone will be able to assist me with.
I have enabled content filtering via the Management Console with delete and reject disabled and quarantine enabled with a SCLQuarantineThreshold of 5.
While I am receiving messages in the mailbox set as the quarantine mailbox, they are simply non-delivery reports received from the 'postmaster' account. However, my understanding from the documentation found on the Technet site for Exchange Server suggests that the original messages should be delivered to the quarantine mailbox (with the ability to re-send the message if required) not NDRs.
I have read through the 'Configure a Spam Quarantine Mailbox' guide @ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123746%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx and I believe everything is setup as it should be. I've also searched to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem and have come up blank. This is our first installation of Exchange Server 2013, so we're learning as we go in terms of how to use and administer Exchange Server.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Many thanks.
Moderated group inside another moderated group
We are about to move our internal distribution list inside of Exchange 2013 from an old ezmlm setup. I have setup a static moderated group. Inside of that group are dynamic regional groups which are moderated as well.
When a user sends email to the static group, I know they will or should be moderated. However, will the nested groups also send moderation messages? Or, is Exchange smart enough to know what we are doing?
I suppose I could hide the nested groups if that doesn't mean that those will not be able to receive email.
Tracing a missing email Exchange 2013
hello.
i have a user telling me they failed to receive a "very important" email from a client, they asked me to chase up if the email went missing as a result of our exchange server.
i have checked the message tracking log in power shell Get-messagetrackinglog and also checked the delivery reports in the EAC both showing nothing.
What i want to know is, is there any other logs or things i can do to see if an email from an external sender has hit any part of my exchange infrastructure
Many Thanks
Edge 2010 server unable to relay internally
Hi,
I have exchange 2010 environment; all the roles are running on individual servers. Recently I have setup an additional edge server and have completed with edge subscription as well. The outgoing email from the internal network have no issue. However the incoming emails are stuck at the new edge server and unable to relay to the hub server. The error message in the queue is “451 4.4 0 primary target ip address responded with 5.7.3 cannot achieve exchange server authentication”.
How can I resolve this?

Signatures Sending Twice
Hi All,
We are using Office 365 and Exchange Online so I hope this is the correct section as it only lets you select Exchange Server.
I am in the process of setting up global signatures, while the signature appears fine, when sending to an internal user, it sends the signature twice. but only to internal users. I think I might have the wrong setting somewhere, below shows my current settings.
*Apply this rule if... The sender is* (This is selected as I do not want everyone to use this signature yet.)
and for the time being, I have had to add the rule only apply if the user is "outside the organization" I would ideally like to remove this, but I can't do that while the signature is being sent twice.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks
Sender is receiving a "Not Read" from their own email address
I have one Outlook 2013 user in an Exchange 2013 CU3 environment who has just recently received a couple of "Not Read" receipts from her own address. In each case the situation seemed to be similar: the sender sent a message to an external address with a PDF attached, with two internal users copied on the message, and read receipts enabled. Immediately after sending it she got a message like the one below:
Your message
To:
Subject: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Sent: Friday, June 20, 2014 9:21:06 AM (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)
was deleted without being read on Friday, June 20, 2014 9:25:16 AM (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada).
What also seems odd to me is that Exchange and Outlook report the original message as being sent at 9:25, not 9:21 as this receipt states (this also happened in the other receipt).
Additionally, one of the internal users, who was copied on both emails, reported not receiving read receipt requests for either of those emails (haven't actually been able to confirm this yet), and indeed, though she read the emails, the sender didn't receive a receipt from her. The sender did receive read receipts from the external recipient and the other internal recipient though.
Does anyone have any idea what has happened with these messages? Is this just a known issue, a bug that can be fixed with an update, or is it some other error that can be corrected?

Invalid Read Receipt Sender Address
If someone sends a mail to us requesting a read receipt and the user accepts to send it (regardless of the Client, it's the same in Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010 and OWA), the SMTP FROM is invalid.
Instead of sending "Name <email@domain>" it sends only "Name" which is translated by some following smtp-relays to Name@wrong.Domain.
Seems to be an Error of Exchange 2013. (also documented here: www networksteve com /exchange/topic.php/Microsoft_Exchange_2013_-_Read_receipt/?TopicId=38683&Posts=0 )
Is there a bug fix / Workaround avaliable?
Thank you for your help.

Exchange Server 2013: incoming messages are not delivered into user mailboxes occasionally
Exchange Server 2013 CU1, two mailbox servers (DAG, only one mail database), two CAS servers (NLB cluster). Two Sendmail/CentOS-based SMTP relays route mail between Exchange servers and Internet (incoming mail is routed to NLB cluster name).
Usually mail flow is OK: messages are sent and received normally. However, I've got several complains from different users. They state that occasionally they don't receive messages that were sent to them from outside. Tomorrow morning I've decided to investigate the issue.
So, we have a message sent from Gmail account that was not delivered in user mailbox. It was received and routed to Exchange by Sendmail host:
Jun 27 22:06:37 MX01 sendmail[12169]: r5RG6HC8012166: to=<USER_ADDRESS>, delay=00:00:19, xdelay=00:00:19, mailer=smtp, pri=124702, relay=NLB-FQDN [NLB-IP], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (<CAHgK_sjEkj41htuVsutMP3XhgR5RRDs8-EgSC-UfHoaiHWFj=A@mail.gmail.com> [InternalId=13069585481819] Queued mail for delivery)
Running Get-MessageTrackingLog applet on the mailbox servers displayed the followed log entries for the message:
DB Server #1:
22:11:18 HAREDIRECT
22:11:18 RECEIVE
22:11:18 AGENTINFO
DB Server #2:
22:11:18 HARECEIVE
22:12:44 HADISCARD
So, we can see that the message was placed into shadow queues, but was NOT delivered into mailbox (no DELIVER status entries). Also pay attention to the timing. Time on all the servers is in sync, but Sendmail timestamp is 22:06, and Exchange timestamps are 5 minutes behind it.
Today a message sent to the same address from the same Google mailbox was received by Exchange and placed into user mailbox with no glitches.
We use Exchange antispam system activated on Exchange mailbox servers. Spam is never dropped silently. It is either returned to sender (SCL 9) or placed into quarantine mailbox (SCL 6 and above). I'm pretty sure that the lost message was not in the quarantine mailbox this morning, and the sender didn't receive any NDRs.
Any ideas what to investigate next?
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 - Unable to recieve emails from outside
I'm having problems setting up brand new installation of EXCH 2013 on the VM server.
Infrastructure - main server Windows Server 2012 Standard, a VM server. Domain vwc.local, VM server introduced to domain. EXCH 2013 installed on VM server.
I'm able to send emails outside, but unable to receive ones from outside. Server provider A, MX records point to mail server. The local router redirect SMTP traffic to VM server - all ports. According to Wireshark the SMTP traffic hits the VM server, but no connection with EXCHG receivers can be established. The external domain name - valleywomenscarepllc.com. Firewall is turned off. The receive connectors are setup to accept anonymous connection, use all ip addresses associated with the VM server network adapter. Netstat shows that 25 port is available. Connectors are in an valid state by running ECHG commandlets.
I'm running out of ideas. Please suggest an area for research or request additional info to narrow down possible causes.
Thanks in advance!
