In searching the Internet, I find a lot on how to install and configure the anti-spam agents for Exchange Server 2013, but nothing on troubleshooting if they don't appear to be working. I assume this means they generally just work.
As far as I can tell, they stopped working and aren't doing anything. At least, the log files stopped updating we've had a spike in spam. I confess I'm not sure how else to tell for sure if they're doing anything.
The last file modified date in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\AgentLog is 2 weeks old.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the antispam agents. I have confirmed they are enabled with a value of TRUE. I have restarted the service and the entire server.
We do not have an Edge server, just the CAS/Mailbox server. It is in a DAG with another server, really just for faster manual failover protection, not at all for load balancing as all external traffic is directed to a single server. Also, I have taken the steps to add the connection filter to the server per http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com/2013/05/rbl-and-exchange-2013.html, which had been working well until that same date about 2 weeks ago, as seen in the logs.
What are the ways to troubleshoot this when it appears everything is running?

Hi everyone,
If you can help me on these question I appreciate.
My question is, I have an environment with 1 CAS Server and 2 MBX Servers (Exchange 2013).
My MX entry is pointing right to my CAS Server.
If my 2 MBX servers are turned off for about 2 (two) hours. The emails sent to may Organization will be lost, right?

Looking for clarification about what Exchange 2007 considers to be "anonymous authentication" for TLS at the Receive Connector. At the company I'm SysAdmin for, about 3 months ago we were getting "spoofed" emails almost daily. These "spoofed" emails would typically have our CEO or the domain admin as the "sender." To mitigate against this, I set our default Exchange "internet" receive connector to DISallow anonymous authentication with a Exchange Management Shell (Powershell) command, and created a separate RC to allow for anonymous-authentication with a set of whitelisted IP's (offsite copiers w/ scan-to-email, Constant Contact, etc). This worked and the spoofing completely stopped.
But here's the issue, now no one that tries to send anything "on behalf of" or "via" someone else can get an email through to us. I was under the impression that disabling anon-auth was only for our organization, but it seems to be affecting all outside parties as well. Gmail will allow these through, but I obviously cannot keep asking my users to have work email sent to their personal Gmail accounts Thank you.
we are receiving FAKE messages [spam & malware] having fake "From:" field stating our domain, but header lines show that First 'received-from is from some unknown foreign ip address originating, definitely not our domain
question:
when receiving mails [through exchange] if From: domain is FRIENDLY [white-list] then check that FIRST received-from MUST also belong to FRIENDLY [white-list] ip addresses
this white-list is our internal list, wants to check this condition with powershell on server side
is it possible?
or some other advice?
thnx in advance
Greetings,
We're trying to roll out TLS 1.2 in our test environment and can't seem to get Exchange to work with the protocol.
We've been using this method to enable TLS 1.2 (and disable the other protocols - TLS1.0, SSL2.0, SSL3.0, PCT1.0): http://www.adminhorror.com/2011/10/enable-tls-11-and-tls-12-on-windows_1853.html
We originally tried using Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2, but then I ran across this article saying that it is not supported: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2709167/en-us
We've since tried to set it up with Exchange 2013 on Server 2012. Still no luck. The only time Exchange wants to work is when TLS1.0 is enabled.
I suspect that TLS1.1 and TLS 1.2 are also not supported on Exchange 2013, or that I'm changing the wrong registry keys, but I wanted to find confirmation. I've searched extensively and can't find any documentation leading me to believe one way or the other if it's supported.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,
is checked "Only senders inside my organization", but email is delivered.Hi,
Is there any way to insert an email item in a mailbox? Suppose I want to insert an email on a specific date with specific subject.
Is it possible in exchange server?
Thanks a lot.
Hi All,
I would like to know if it's possible to setup a kind of buffer for outbound mails.
We would like to be able to have a copy of the mails and, if needed, we can resend the e-mails.
I've looked into the following options, but it seems they're not what we're looking for:
- Catch All mailbox: get's a copy, but resending e-mails as the Catch-All mailboxuser, not the original sender
- Journalling: same as the above.
Are there any other options?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Matthijs
What takes presedence in order of rule processing Hub Transport rules vs Account forwarding.
Example:
I have an email account called "Support" that is configured in account email forwarding to forward email to an external address (External Address A) and retain a copy locally.
I have a new requirement now to be more specific and forward mail to a different external email address (External Email Address B) if the mail was from an individual located in an internal AD group. I created the correct redirect Hub rule and tested it on it's own with no issue.
When both account forwarding and Hub Transport rules are configured, I get the following result when a member of the internal AD group sends an email to Support; The email forwards to External Address A and External Address B, no copy is stored locally. My desired result was for the message to be forwarded to External Address B only.
Any ideas on how to acheive this result? What if I select "stop processing more rules" on the Hub Transport rule, will this take care of the issue? I'm just not sure in which order Exchange processes the forwarding and Hub Transport Rule.
Hello,
We are working with Exchange 2013 and would like an email account to forward email to a group or multiple mailboxes. First we go to the "Exchange Admin Setup." Then we select a "User Mailbox" and go to "Mailbox Features." Then we go to "Mail Flow" and click "View Details." This leads to the "Delivery Options" screen (image attached below).
Once we "browse" to select mailboxes or groups, the groups that we have set up don't show up in the list. In addition, only one user mailbox can be selected rather than multiple ones.
Is there something that must be done in order to have groups show up in the "Enable forwarding" list even though it clearly reads "Forward email to the following mailboxes
or groups?"
Hi guys.
We are dealing with RBL not working.
We have zen.spamhaus.org as one of the RBL's (priority 1).
This IP is reported as spam/blacklisted
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperToolX.aspx?action=blacklist%3a38.68.18.194&run=toolpage
Is this result ok or not?
we also take a look that we don't have any DNS issues. We had exactly the same behavior as on this post "https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/1252eb3d-949c-4cc3-a1d7-dc08f0bdd372/rbl-not-working-on-exchange-2013-edge-transport" but we have resolved this by changing forwarders on DNS and now it resolves just fine.
After that we have restarted transport service on Exchange 2013 EDGE.
Edge is on CU11.
Any other hints to check why RBL is not working ok?
With best regards
bostjanc
Hi everyone,
Let's say if the company has 100 users and decides to use Exchange 2013 for 25 (top mgmt) users and place the rest of 75 users in Zimbra. All users share the same <name>@domain.comaddress. Exchange 2013 will be internet facing.
What I thought to accomplish this was to place Exchange behind internet. Then add a 'send connector' to route the inbound mails form internet for the 75 users who's got their mailboxes on Zimbra. And Zimbra will check his side and drop the mail if mailbox not found.
And when it comes to Zimbra user sending an email, I thought of adding a receive connector from Zimbra and if the mailbox is on the Exchange side, accept it or else, route it to internet.
1) Would this work, or any other approaches?
2) How should i implement the Send/Receive Connectors.
Hi all,
I need a solution that allows us to restrict mail flow (based on group membership). We want to allow users to send email at any time, but we only want email to be delivered between 6am and 11pm each day (configurable time). Emails are held but not delivered until the email flow is opened up again between 6am and 11pm (only for users in a certain group, say KWS_restricted_emailFlow). Please include an email bounce message from the recipients mailbox when emails are sent to them during the restrited time. We would like to configure this message.
The current environment is exchange on premise, if this cannot be setup by using exchange 2010 only. is there any other solution we can use to make it happen?
thanks
Hi Technet,
Can I please get some light shed with this issue?
A customer has an application that reads a mailbox called Software via EWS for emails sent to email@contoso.com.
Users were used to send emails to other email addresses and rules were set up accordingly to redirect / forward emails to email@contoso.com however the application can't pick them up as the recipient is not the expected.
I know that sender address can be rewritten but is it possible to rewrite a recipient address?
Example: User sends an email to someone@contoso.com and the recipient get changed into email@contoso.com without being redirected or forwarded.
Thanks very much.
Hi,
I'm writing transport agent for Exchange server, which processes message attachments. As attachments are changed I need to update Sent Items folder. I do it using EWS.
Issue: sometimes message is not found in Sent Items.
So my question is: Who and when saves message to Sent Items folder? Is it some part of exchange server? Or is it Outlook who does it?
Can someone point me to useful articles or give a hint on where to search?
Thanks,
Oleksii
Dear all,
Could you help me to investigate the issue below which I've been having since yesterday.
One of the users, who works in our company, is trying to recieve an external e-mail, however, for some reason it cannot be delivered to him and a person, who sends the message, receives an error notification below.
However, it looks like no problem occurs with other users who are in the copy
