X400 address removal quesiton - outlook cache

$

Hi,

I saw a lot of discussions about removal of X400 address type. We have it also implemented from previous versions of Exchange. Now we are only on 2013 and want to migrate to 2016. But before migration I would like to remove all X400 addresses.

We have X400 defined in default "email address policy". I can remove it there and update all mailboxes to reflect changes on address policy.

But my question is - What happened if I remove X400 from default email address policy and outlook will use cached email contact with SMTP/X400 address? I would like to avoid problems which cause NDR emails coming to employees just because their outlook has cached items.

Thanks

How to drop 'delivery reports' on specific recipients?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to drop 'delivery reports' on 4 specific mailboxes in my org.

I'm running Exchange 2013 at CU11 Patch level.

I've found articles on creating Transport rules for Exchange 2010 and don't want to disable the option entirely on 2013 with this...

Set-RemoteDomain mydomain.com -DeliveryReportEnabled $false

Mailflow > Rules doesn't seem to have anything I can use for 'delivery report' manipulation?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Out of the blue one of our users will not be able to send emails to a MailUser in Outlook, but it will work with OWA

The error is IMCEAEX-_o=NT5_ou=00000000000000000000000000000000_cn=73495F221CFA124085D6606DD6101CFF@sendingdomain.com

If I delete the contact completely from Outlook suggested contacts, and any other contact list, the error still remains

If I create a new Outlook profile, I still get the error.

I tried the solution in this post, but it did not help, the legacyExchangeDN is populated and correct.

Another user in the post reported that a corrupt OAB on the Exchange server might be an issue if there are multiple CAS servers/DAG - but I only have a single server with all roles installed

Anyone any ideas?

Allow SMTP client to send email to specific of domains

Hello,

I wonder is there any possibility to create Receive connector and grant permission to send email to specific domains instead of whole world, i.e. create relay but narrow domain recipient list?

lack of recent anti Spam-Filter updates?

Hello,

it has been a while since my Exchange Server Edge-Transport (2010 Enterprise) installed new anti-spam definition files. 24th September 2016 was the last time.

Is there something wrong with the definition updates (we had this issue some time ago: Microsoft didn't Update the definition files for some months)? Anyone suffer under the same issue?

I am also wondering why it is called Standard-Antispam Updates and not Enterprise.

Delivery Proof

Hello everyone.... first post here.

I have a question about proof of delivery to an external email address.  The seems to have been some malware or malicious  activity within our organization.  Over a period of three days there were ~2000 emails forwarded to a gmail.com address from our exchange server.  I had the admin send the email trace and while analyzing it I see that all the messages had an event_id of "sendexternal".  The admin and others have assured me that none of the messages made it to the gmail.com address as none of them showed "deliver" as the event_id.  I am not convinced that this is the case.  Am I wrong or is there a way to prove the messages were delivered or not.  Please excuse my ignorance on exchange as I'm just the Security Analyst.

External Contacts relay not working.

Hi Everyone,

Customers email the ITHelpdesk distribution group from outside of my organisation. My team and an external contact are in this DG.

The external contact is a monitored by our cloud based service desk application and logs all emails sent to it automatically into our online service desk.

All the staff in the DG get the clients emails internally just fine however the clients get an NDR telling them the message sent to the external service desk contact failed and calls are thus not getting automatically logged in the service desk.

The NDR says...Remote Server Returned '550 Administrative Prohibition'

DG setting already has Authentication disabled (RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled : False) and this system has worked for as long as I can remember but is now not and giving this error. No changes my side.

P.S. I push out all of our mail via a 'smarthost' configured send connector with username and password managed by the 'smarthost' company.

I'm arguing with them this is an error on their side and they are arguing that this an error on my internal exchange?

Any ideas where this is being blocked and how I can resolve this?

Thanks in advance,

durrie.

Subject that is encoded with a character set

I want to create a mail flow rule that will bump the SCL of an email with Chinese characters in the subject.  I tried creating a rule whose subject matches the expression '=\?utf-8\?' or '=\?gb18030\?' or '=\?gb2312\?' or '=\?gbk\?' or '(=\?utf-8\?|=\?GB(K|2312|18030)\?)' however, it doesn't work.

I think what happens is Exchange searches after interpreting the subject's encoding, as opposed to searching the subject header raw.

Any ideas how I can accomplish my mail flow rule?

thanks!

Hi there,

I'm trying to look at external logs as i'm having delayed emails but I can't see any logs from external SMTP servers, I've enabled logging on receiver and when I check logs for TRANSPORT\SmtpReceive all I see are logs between the Exchange servers in the DAG and NOT any external SMTP connections or errors.  Looked everything but can't find it!  Where can I grab these.

Thanks!

Forward to Mail Contact (delivery options) not available ECP 2013

$

Hi All,

In our environment we have a few Mailbox users for who the e-mail is forwarded to a external E-mail address. Normally you would create a mail contact and set the external SMTP address on the contact. In the mailbox settings from the mailbox user you would set to deliver to that contact en choose if all e-mails should be delivered to both the mailbox and the contact or just the contact.

The whole option to forward to contacts is missing in Exchange 2013. There is only the option to enable forwarding to Mailbox user and Mail users but not to Mail contacts. (Open mailbox, go to Mailbox Features, scroll down to Mail Flow and under Delivery Options click View details)

The big difference between a Mail Contact and a Mail User is that a Mail User is provided with a AD username/password. A Mail Contact is just a AD user item.

Yes you can still forward e-mail from a Mailbox user to a external address with PowerShell:
Set-Mailbox -Identity "John Doe" -DeliverToMailboxAndForward $false -ForwardingSMTPAddress john@doe.com

But this forward can't be managed trough the ECP or trough a Mail Contact.

Thanks all, I'm very curious what your findings are on this topic.

Hi Guys,

I have one client which I have issue is delivering emails to them. They are using Exchange 2007 single server multirole and I'm on Hybrid 2013/EO using IronPort. I found and detected there server is in open relay.

Does this config in anyway affect email delivery to them?

I can always telnet to them successfully.

NDR:

Remote Server returned '< #4.4.0 smtp; 4.4.0 - Other network problem '[Errno 0] Error' (delivery attempts: 0)>'<o:p></o:p>

Hybrid Configuration Wizard - Public IP Addresses & Org FQDN

$

Hi Everyone,

I wonder if someone might be able to clarify a few points for me.  I am currently working on setting up a hybrid configuration and was looking at my options for hybrid mail flow.  I have setup a lab environment in Azure and upon running the HCW I noticed the option to specify multiple public IP's and then later the Org FQDN.  Upon completion I noticed the Connector setup in O365 will direct all SMTP traffic to the DNS name specified on the Org FQDN page.  My two questions that I am looking for clarification on are:

1.  Can we simply have the DNS name in the org FQDN resolve to multiple NAT'd IP's on our internet facing FW in order to provide HA for SMTP traffic in a hybrid configuration?  I'm assuming HWLB is another option but I'm trying to avoid that to keep things simple.

2.  If the org FQDN is used by EOP for mail flow, what is the significance of specifying the Public IP Addresses?  Possibly added to a whitelist on the EOP side?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Kind Regards

Chris
