Is Disribution group in use?

$

Exchange 2013. On-Premise.

Is there a place to find if someone is sending to a distribution group?

I am looking to remove older groups.

I sent to one group; Went to "Delivery Reports"; Selected a mailbox of one of the members; Selected "Search for messages sent to:".  Added the distribution group.

That showed no messages.

Is there a text log I can search for the Distribution name or address?

Missing emails. Get this message in Delivery Reports. QUEUE.TransportAgent; message deleted by transport agent

Hello everyone.

We had a very weird error this morning on our Exchange 2013.

We were not able to receive email from outside, but we were able to send to the outside.

I was doing some testing with an outside account and I noticed that when I sent an email from outside(google) to the exchange, in the Delivery Report, you can see the email but at the bottom there was a message saying.

The message couldn't be delivered.

550 4.3.2 QUEUE.TransportAgent; message deleted by transport agent

The message never reached my mailbox.

We rebooted the server and the mail started to flow, but all those test email and of course the real email that was coming in at that time is lost.

Does anybody know what this could be?

Any guidance will be great. Thanks in advance.

Jack.

Mail Flow stalls after 16022 events, then starts again 15-20 minutes later

I have an Exchange 2013 CU1 and Exchange 2007 SP3 server in the same Exchange environment, and have recently migrated external mailflow to the 2013 box.   I have noticed that I get periodic delays in inbound mail several times a day.

External mail flow stops for around 15-20 minutes, then springs back into life.

Looking through the event logs I can see multiple informational event 16022's from the ExchangeTransport / Front End services, indicating that various configuration updates have successfully completed at about the time mail flow stops (even though there have been no administrator config changes made).

About 15 minutes later I then see an event 1000 indicating the Transport service is trying to start (even though I can find no sign of it stopping), followed by a load of ESE events starting up the queues, and then mail flow starts again.

I have no idea what is causing this - any suggestions?

Many thanks

Edge 2013 : edge ldap server is unavailable

users. The message then gets routed to a past users mailbox that has an smtp address for each of the past users.  The default address on this mailbox is pastusers@cs2.co.uk.   This was working fine until we put on Exchange 2013.  We now notice that the auto reply doesn't work.  The reason for that is it depends on the knowing the recipient but we've discovered that Exchange is replacing the recipient address with pastusers@cs2.co.uk.  Investigation shows this  behaviour can be controlled by Edge server transport rules.  The thing is although we're running Exchange 2013 SP1 no Edge server has been configured.

The question is then how to override this behaviour so the recipient address remains as per the original?

in case it's not clear here's an example of what I mean.  Say for instance that we still receive emails for Joe Bloggs long after he's left the company. We want to intercept messages to jbloggs@cs2.co.uk, auto reply to the sender that Joe Bloggs no longer works for us and pick up that message in the past users mailbox which as jbloggs@cs2.co.uk as one of its smtp addresses.  What is happening now is jbloggs@cs2.co.uk is replaced with pastusers@cs2.co.uk.

Slow mail flow?

Hi all!

I installed Exchange 2013 CU1 on Server 2012. I have 2 2012 one for AD and one for Exchange. This is small enviroment, EX2013 has 8GB of RAM and 10 users on it. We recive around 150 mails per day and send about 100 mails per day so this is very low resource usage...

When we were on exchange 2010 SP3, when I sent mail to gmail account which is configured to send mail back to me it all took around 10 seconds tops!

Now it takes waaay more, see attached image....

Any idea why it is so slow?

Regards,

Greg

Can we have two or more certificates for differents accepted domains in one Exchange server 2013?

Hello everyone,

We have an on-premises Exchange 2013 server, we have a principal domain.com, and we add an adicional accepted domain domain2.com.

We bought a UCC SSL certificate for our first domain.com and assign it to the services iis and smtp, and everything works.

But my costumer want to buy another UCC certificate for domain2.com. The cuestion: is possible to have this two certificates assigned to the iis and smtp? When we try to assing one certificate this overwrite the other.

I know we can add the domain2.com to the same first certificate and everything works, but my costumer wants to have its two certificates with each domain. Is possible?

Thanks in advance!

I am trying to locate the log files for Exchange 2013 malware scanning.  Does Exchange even create these or is all logging done in the event logs?

Mailbox will only open with Outlook 2003

We're in the process of upgrading our company's office professional suite from 2003 to 2010. I've installed office 2010 on several machines and everything works fine except for one user. Regardless of the machine the user attempts to access outlook 2010 from, it becomes unresponsive at the "Loading Profile" page. I also attempted to access their mailbox using Office Pro 2013 with the same failing result (tried both in safe mode as well). The only version of Outlook that seems to work for the user is 2003.

All other users that have attempted to connect via Outlook 2010 and 2013 have been successful. Any ideas as to what might be causing the issue?

Hello,

We have Exchange 2013 configured to send and receive mails internally and externally. Everything is going great except the fact that the mails sent FROM our Exchange 2013 are received as SPAM. For example, I send an email from exchange to my gmail account (generally to any EXTERNAL receipt). I receive the mail in the SPAM folder.

Any ideas Please !!

Recipients are not found via Recipient Filtering

Hey,

i have the following issue with a customer:

The customer get an email from an external sender like:

  • sender: test@example.com
  • recipients: 1@customer.com;2@customner.com;3@customer.com etc.

In the example the accounts 1 and 2 exist and 3 is a non existing address.

We have enabled Recipient Filtering / Recipient Vaildation and the example mail above get defered because of the non existing address 3@customer.com. the recipients 1 and 2 did also not receive this email. How can we change this behaviour? 1 and 2 should get this mail and for 3 there should be an 550 user unknown or in this case an ndr, since the mail object contains other valid recipients.

Also, i've noticed that some mails get discarded with "user unknown", although the recipient exists. How can that be?

Hi,

i've a fresh install of Exchange 2013 SP1.
When I test the mailflow with the Test-Mailflow cmdlet, the messages end up in the poison queue.
Other mails sent through OWA or Outlook were submitted correctly.

Email not delivered

I have a shared mailbox configured on my exchange 2013 server (SP1).  (there are 2x CAS servers and 2x MBX servers connected with a working DAG) and had a user say they never got an email that was sent from an external gmail account.   We run our email through Message Labs before hitting exchange and i can see the email successfully go through message labs and from the exchange servers ive run a message tracking report:

Get-MessageTrackingLog -resultsize Unlimited -Start "04/22/2014 08:00:00" -End "04/22/2014 10:00:00" -recipient "hrrecruit@domainname" | select-object eventid,timestamp,messageid,sender,recipients,messagesubject,totalbytes | out-gridview

I can see the email hit exchange but there are only 2 entries,  HARECEIVE at 8:59:45am and then a HADISCARD at 9:02:00am.   Is there a better way to figure out what exactly caused this message to not get delivered?

Thanks in advance!

SMTP Routing in Exchange 2013

$

We are migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and I have some questions around the mail flow changes in 2013.

I understand that the CAS role plays a part in mail flow now. We have our 2013 CAS servers installed as a separate role.

  1. Should we direct our internal applications to the CAS servers for SMTP mail delivery or should it be the Mailbox servers?

  2. Should the external mail flow next hop from our SPAM firewall be the CAS servers?

  3. Where should we apply receive connector rules, CAS or Mailbox?

Exchange 2013 Delivery Reports - Why does it not show forwarded mail?

$

We just migrated from 2010 to 2013 and all seems to be working well... We started using EOP at the same time with only a few hiccups.  Our Get-MessageTrackingLog command shows all of our email that was delivered or failed, etc... but when I try to run"Mail Flow -> Delivery reports", it forces me to select a mailbox and I leave the other fields empty - and it only shows emails that come directly to me.  The problem is, I have half a dozen email accounts that are set to forward their email to my exchange account.  None of those emails show up with the delivery reports method - but they DO show up via the powershell get-messagetrackinglog command...

With EOP I can see all the emails if I use "Mail Flow -> Message Trace"... why does it work with EOP, but on our local box - it's nerfed to just emails who specify my direct exchange address?

i have exchange organization with exchange 2007 sp 3 & exchange 2013 sp1.

i have single forest, 2 site (site1, site2), root domain root.local and 1 child domain ch.root.local

DC  for child domain is located in site2 (dc.ch.root.local)

multirole exchange 2013 server is installed in root domain.

i am traing to configure smtp receive connector with NTLM auth and have one problem.

when user in child domain try send email through this receive connector i see in log

<,AUTH NTLM,

>,334 <authentication response>,

*,SMTPSubmit SMTPAcceptAnyRecipient BypassAntiSpam AcceptRoutingHeaders,Set Session Permissions

*,CH\user1,authenticated

*,,Setting up client proxy session failed with error: 535 5.7.3 Unable to proxy authenticated session because either the backend does not support it or failed to resolve the user

*,,"Setting up client proxy session failed with error: 451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: ""535 5.7.3 Unable to proxy authenticated session because either the backend does not support it or failed to resolve the user."" Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts. The last endpoint attempted was 192.168.1.15:465"

but authentication is succesfull for users from root domain.

why do it can be?

message not being delivered.

i'm working in my test lab system.

I have 2008 DC with Exchange 2007, 2010 and now 2013.

before installing the 2013 message delivery between 2007 and 2010 worked without issues.

however after installing 2013 message delivery between 2010 to 2007 stopped. 2013 to itself fails. 2007 to 2010 works but not to 2013.

i'm struggling to find all possible causes and solutions. I can't work out all of the 2013 changes to message tracking yet but the 2010 message tracking shows that the ip address of the servers are ipv6. as of yet I have not configured any ipv6 addresses so maybe this is part of the problem or not. i'm trying to deal with the message delivery issue and also look into *how to step-by-step* configure ipv6 too.

question 1: what do I need to look into the issue of the Exchange message delivery failures. then I will have to look into setup ipv6 properly.
